Retired professional athlete, James Allen, becomes the first stakeholder in Fuego Fino’s new “Spirits Stakeholder” unit which matches locally-produced brands with groups of high-profile talent who will bring the history behind the brand to life.
“Vanport’s story is amazing. One of the largest U.S. cities — a racial melting pot made up of families who helped build ships during WWII — was totally destroyed by a flood. James Allen’s family was part of that ship-building community, who after the flood, moved into Portland, Oregon and grew to become the heart of that city’s Black community. His role in this brand is very real, and we hope to build a solid base of stakeholders around him who will push this brand forward. This line of spirits is truly a celebration of how life goes on, despite the challenging times,” says CEO Jessica Contreras.
JAMES ALLEN – RETIRED NFL ATHLETE
Allen was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. He attended Jefferson High School in Portland where he excelled in football. He also was a very skilled saxophone player.
College career – Allen attended Oregon State University where he played linebacker under coach Dennis Erickson from 1997 to 2001. He was an integral member of the 2000 Beaver team that beat Notre Dame 41-9 in the 2001 Fiesta Bowl and finished 4th in the final AP poll.
Professional career – Allen was selected in the third round (82nd overall) in the 2002 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. He played linebacker for the Saints from 2002 to 2006. A second aspect of the model will involve “stakeholders,” who are part owners in the brand and will act as brand ambassadors, representing that community. This effort may involve retired professional athletes from the area, matched with other athletes or celebrities who made the location popular. The goal is to create a well-rounded package of brand ambassadors who want to represent their brand organically and who have ownership in that brand’s success.
Fuego Fino, Inc. will focus on collaborating with local distilleries so that these spirits are sourced from the locations where the brands originate. The plan is to use a network of producers so that the model can be scaled upwards while benefiting the local economy which those brands are based upon.
