So many artists, so little time. Each week we evaluate a handful of new albums (of every genre), sum up additional new music that we’d call “independent,” and talk about what music are trending. We post music news, track debuts, and more all night long. We revise a Spotify/Apple Music playlist monthly of some of our current hottest tracks. Today we get to highlight a new Texas icon; a rap duo by the name Tribe Mafia. These southern rappers are taking Austin’s music scene by stormTribe Mafia Talks ‘Getting Into My Family Roots’ for their Upcoming Dancehall Album “It’s a Tribe Ting.”
There are two members of the hip hop duo Tribe Mafia, Chinasa Broxton and Carlos “Dashawn Daniels” Moore. The two rappers are known for their hooks, melodies and associated with the likes of Lil’Flip, Doja Cat, Mo3, and Akon among others. They have been characterized as ‘the crème de la crème’ of our generation’ with a great number of their colleagues and critics endorsing their vocal ability. Growing up in Austin, the two aspiring artists were influenced by their city’s nonstop musical energy and experimented with a wide variety of approaches as they found their creative voice. Tribe Mafia was highly active in their hometown for years, collaborating with other Austin artists, performing at the annual South by Southwest music festival, and hosting their own listening parties that gathered local creative talents to build a community.
Here’s a interview with Austin, Texas’s most promising rappers Tribe Mafia.
Tribe Mafia is mainly known for doing hip-hop music, why the sudden switch to doing latin/dancehall?
“We have a growing fanbase that loves various genres. With that being said, I would never want to put all over our creativity in a box. After touring in Sao Paola, Brazil with Akon and seeing a crowd of 60,000 fans go crazy to our dancehall song ‘Like Cola’ we knew it would be a good move to finish our dancehall album. The artists we invited on this album are the best of the best, we are honestly proud to call them our friend.” Carlos “Dashawn Daniels” Moore adds.
After this album is live will you guys go back to making predominantly rap music?
“This was really fulfilling, I had so fun much digging down to the core of my family roots and explore who I am as a Nigerian Artist. I think we will produce more hip-hop tracks, but I will be sure to tap into my Nigerian side. This album is the steppingstone for me to dive into my culture and getting back in tune with my family roots” Chinasa Broxton answers.
Will this album have any music videos?
“There is a music video for Like Cola on YouTube which has over 1 million views. We also have the music video for “Testify,” “I Wanna Know,” “On My Mind,” and “Hurt.” I think you guys will definitely enjoy the concept we implemented for these songs.” Carlos “Dashawn Daniels” Moore adds.
Tribe Mafia belongs to the 1% in the entertainment industry due to their versatile musical skills, resilience, and most importantly, evident passion for music. Stay tuned for Chinasa Broxton and Carlos “Dashawn Daniels” Moore’s much anticipated dancehall album “It’s a Tribe Ting” set to release late summer.
