Galaxy devices are omitting certain image data when using AirDrop instead of Quick Share; a solution is on the way

Following a significant update that enabled Galaxy S26 phones to share files with Apple’s iOS devices via AirDrop, some users have reported that the shared images lack location and camera data.

Historically, AirDrop has been a proprietary system akin to iMessage, creating a communication barrier between iOS and Android devices. However, this dynamic has started to shift recently, as Samsung introduced the initial version of AirDrop compatibility for Android. Currently, this feature is exclusive to the Galaxy S26 series, as it is still in its early development phase.

Evidence of Quick Share’s nascent state is reflected in recent reports indicating that images transferred from Galaxy phones to iOS devices are devoid of metadata. This report, which surfaced weeks ago, originated from Samsung’s official community forum, where one user highlighted that their shared images were missing both location and lens data.

In response to the initial concern, Samsung acknowledged the issue, stating that they are actively working on a solution for Quick Share. They confirmed that during the AirDrop transfer from Galaxy phones, “location information is not transmitted when sharing files with Apple devices.” Regarding lens data, Samsung mentioned that they are still investigating whether this issue is more widespread. Another participant in that discussion corroborated the absence of lens data.

It has been a while since this problem was first raised in Samsung’s forum. Reports indicate that shared images continue to lack location data, while lens information appears to be retained during the file transfer.

Samsung is anticipated to address the AirDrop location issue on Galaxy phones in the near future. Nevertheless, this is a newly introduced Quick Share feature that took considerable time to be implemented on Android devices. Some bugs are to be expected, and hopefully, this will be the extent of the issues.
