Google Integrates AI Image Generator ‘Nano Banana’ Directly Into Chrome Browser

Google has introduced a significant update to its Chrome web browser by integrating its in-house AI image generation and editing tool, Nano Banana, into the core browsing experience. The rollout marks one of the company’s biggest steps toward embedding generative AI tools directly into everyday software used by millions of people worldwide.

The new feature is accessible through a Gemini-powered sidebar built into Chrome. Users logged in on desktop versions in the United States can now generate and edit images without leaving their current tab or switching to other apps. With Nano Banana in the sidebar, visual creation and adjustments become quicker and more seamless for casual users and creators alike.

Alongside the image generator, Google’s update also includes a range of other AI-driven tools, including enhanced multitasking functions via the Gemini sidebar and support for personalized assistance features. A preview of an “auto browse” capability is also available for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, allowing the browser to perform certain tasks like logging into websites and drafting online posts under user guidance.

According to reports, the integration aims to reduce the need for context switching—users won’t need to open separate tabs or apps for AI-based tasks such as image editing or content summarization. Google suggests this enhancement will help users stay focused and productive while browsing.

The Nano Banana model was initially developed within Google’s Gemini ecosystem, where it has already gained attention for its ability to generate and edit images using natural language prompts. With its addition to Chrome, Google is further blurring the lines between standard web browsing and advanced AI creativity tools.

This latest update is part of a broader push by Google to make AI capabilities more deeply integrated into core products, following similar enhancements to services like Gmail and Search. More AI-based personalization features are expected to arrive in Chrome later this year, making the browser increasingly intelligent and context-aware.
