Mercedes-AMG Unveils Prototype for Upcoming New GT3

Mercedes‑AMG has unveiled not just one, but two new vehicles that are making their debut following last year’s CONCEPT AMG GT TRACK SPORT ‘teaser’.

The concept vehicle has acted as the technological testing platform for both the Mercedes‑AMG GT3 and the upcoming Mercedes‑AMG GT Black Series – referred to as X192 in the Mercedes Benz model lineup.

Michael Schiebe, who serves as a Member of the Board of Management at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, overseeing Production, Quality & Supply Chain Management, as well as the Chairman of the Management Board at Mercedes-AMG GmbH, stated: “We are in the process of creating the most extreme Black Series to date. Concurrently, we aim to establish the next record-holder in motorsport with the upcoming GT3. The basis for this endeavor is the CONCEPT AMG GT TRACK SPORT – a technology demonstrator that has always been more than just a concept. It represents our clear commitment to achieving maximum performance, a promise applicable to both the racetrack and the road. At AMG, our goal is to develop vehicles that surpass expectations. This is precisely what the future Black Series and the new GT3 are designed to accomplish.

The road-legal version of the concept car acts as a homologation model for the successor to the GT3.

Since October 2025, the prototype – adorned with yellow-green and red highlights – has been undergoing rigorous dynamic testing on various test tracks and racetracks. This includes the in-house development track in Immendingen, as well as Bilster Berg, Portimão, and Monteblanco. With the commencement of testing on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the next phase of development is now in progress.

Additionally, the colors have been clearly established: red will henceforth symbolize the Mercedes‑AMG GT3 as a key component of the Mercedes‑AMG Motorsport color palette, while yellow-green will signify the Mercedes‑AMG GT Black Series.

Introducing the new Mercedes‑AMG GT3: The next evolution in Customer Racing.

The Mercedes‑AMG GT3 represents a natural progression of Mercedes‑AMG’s successful Customer Racing Program.

The groundwork for the brand’s commitment to Customer Racing was established in 2010. The inaugural full racing season took place in 2011 with the Mercedes‑Benz SLS AMG GT3. This success narrative has been consistently advanced with the Mercedes‑AMG GT3 since 2016 and the Evo variant since 2020.

The choice to create a successor to the GT3 resulted in the formation of Affalterbach Racing GmbH – a fully-owned subsidiary of Mercedes‑AMG – which, in collaboration with Mercedes‑AMG Motorsport, is tasked with the development and construction of the new vehicle.

The new GT3 is presently undergoing an intensive development phase. The objective is to uphold the successful Customer Racing legacy while establishing new benchmarks in performance, safety, and competitiveness.

Details regarding the car’s anticipated entry into racing service have not yet been disclosed, but 2027 has been previously indicated as a target for the new car’s debut.

Christoph Sagemüller, the head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, stated: “With the introduction of the concept, we can now officially designate the new Mercedes‑AMG GT3, with which we aim to carry on the success narrative in Customer Racing for Mercedes‑AMG Motorsport. Our ambition is to once again deliver a vehicle that sets the standard. We have already acquired significant insights from the preliminary tests. We are now progressing into the next stage of development and will also be conducting tests on racetracks pertinent to GT Sport.”

Regarding the AMG Black Series, the latest model represents the most extreme version of a lineage that dates back to 2006.

A significant vehicle in this evolution was the Mercedes‑Benz SLK 55 AMG, which served as the F1 Safety Car during that period. Although the model lineup was intended for road use, specially developed versions of the SLK 55 for an Asian racing series provided the crucial motivation for the later “Black Series” lineup.

The initiative was internally referred to as “TRACK SPORT,” reflecting the goal of directly translating the uncompromising focus on track performance into a road-legal car. This endeavor ultimately led to the introduction of the Mercedes‑Benz SLK 55 AMG Black Series in 2006.

More information about both vehicles will be revealed at a future date.
