Microsoft Tests Letting Users Resume Android Apps on Windows 11

Microsoft is experimenting with a new Windows 11 feature that enables users to resume Android apps directly on their PCs. The feature is gradually rolling out to Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta Channels, with support currently limited to the Spotify app.

Participants in the test can try the functionality by linking an Android phone to a PC and opening a song in Spotify’s mobile app. Windows 11 will then display a “Resume from your phone” notification with the Spotify icon and a prompt to “Continue on this PC.”

Selecting the notification opens Spotify’s desktop app—or prompts installation if it is not already installed—allowing the same song to continue playing seamlessly on the computer.

The feature was first demonstrated during a Build 2025 presentation, which has since been removed. The functionality resembles Apple’s Handoff, which lets users switch activities between a Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch.

While Microsoft has not yet detailed expansion plans, the feature could eventually support a wider range of apps, making it possible to continue tasks such as reading articles or drafting emails from phone to PC without disruption.
