One of the most helpful updates Apple has made to its Mail program in recent years is being mirrored in a much-anticipated feature that Microsoft is adding to Outlook for Mac. This update ensures feature consistency across platforms by bringing Outlook for Mac into line with its Windows and online versions.
Presenting Recall for Mac Outlook
Recall, the new tool, functions similarly to Apple Mail’s Undo Send feature, which debuted in 2022. Recall is intended to assist users in taking back emails that they have sent too soon or that contain errors.
We’ve all been in the position where we hit send only to discover that the message was unfiltered, had a typo, or was sent to the wrong person. With Apple’s Undo Send feature, users have a small window to reverse the action before the email is really sent.
How the Recall Feature on Microsoft Operates
Microsoft’s Recall feature adopts a somewhat different strategy. This is how it is unique:
- After an email has been sent, recall is enabled, enabling users to take back a message after Apple’s allotted short gap.
- Only accounts with Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft 365 within the same company are eligible for the feature.
- It is impossible to remember emails sent to or from other services like Hotmail, Gmail, or Outlook.com accounts.
Recall is still an effective tool for internal corporate use, even though this restriction prevents it from working for personal correspondence or inter-organizational contact. With Microsoft 365, staff members may more successfully retract emails, keeping unwanted communications from getting to coworkers.
Rollout and Availability
The Mac version of Recall for Outlook is currently under beta testing. In the near future, Microsoft intends to make it available to all users, further enhancing email management and lowering users’ fears of unintentional email errors.
Outlook customers on Macs may rest easy knowing that they have an additional layer of protection against email problems, at least within their company, thanks to this functionality.
