Today, Motorola unveiled the Razr, Razr+, and Razr Ultra, the latter of which is a more expensive device that adds to the family of Razr folding cellphones. At the company’s exclusive launch event in New York City on Wednesday, however, Moto AI—an artificial intelligence component driven by both internal and external huge language models, such as Meta’s Llama—was the main focus.
For the first time, the Razr phones will come preinstalled with Perplexity AI, an AI search engine, in addition to Google’s Gemini. Aravind Srinivas, the CEO of Perplexity, spoke on stage about the adjustments made to capitalize on the Razr’s distinctive appearance. Motorola even claims that Copilot from Microsoft will be preinstalled at launch. For such little phones, that is a significant amount of AI.
With a minor durability improvements, the midrange Razr+ is nearly identical to the Razr+ from 2024. The Razr portfolio for 2025 starts at $700 for the standard Razr, $1,000 for the Razr+, and $1,300 for the Razr Ultra. And it wasn’t just phones. Motorola unveiled the Moto Buds Loop, a line of open-ear earphones with Swarovski crystals incorporated in the earbuds and a Sound by Bose collaboration. The Razr Family of 2025
The build quality is the main change across the Razr 2025 series. According to Motorola, all Razr models now include a titanium-reinforced hinge plate that is four times stronger than the previous stainless steel one and can handle 35% more folds. Motorola claims that because the glass is thinner, there will be less crease at the fold, and the IP48 dust and water resistance is a minor improvement over the majority of folding phones that aren’t qualified for any dust protection.
For purportedly ten times improved drop performance, the Razr Ultra particularly uses Corning’s Gorilla Glass Ceramic, which is similar to Apple’s Ceramic Shield on its iPhones.
Motorola is also attempting to differentiate its smartphones through texture and color. According to the business, 65 percent of the phones it sold in 2024 were not in the gloomy or neutral hues that have historically dominated the smartphone industry. The new Razrs feature a rich, vibrant color scheme as a result. The Razr Ultra has four finishes—Mountain Trail, which uses FSC-certified wood; Scarab, which is the first time Italian-made Alcantara has been used on a smartphone; Cabaret, which has a satin-inspired finish; and Rio Red, which has a leather-inspired appearance. Compared to the Razr, the Razr+ and Razr Ultra still have a larger 4-inch external screen. According to Motorola, you may add more widgets for easy, rapid access without constantly unlocking the phone, as well as panels for your friends’ contact information and music streaming. By reducing the bezels around the screen, the Razr Ultra now has the biggest 7-inch screen of the bunch when you flip it open.
The Razr Ultra represents the biggest shift in terms of cameras. The Razr+ variant still has the telephoto, but the second camera is now an ultrawide. Last year’s Razr+ cut the ultrawide in favor of a 2X optical zoom, which was a somewhat contentious move. Having an ultrawide on a flip makes it simple to include more people in group photos. For more accurate color reproduction, the Ultra is the only model in the lineup that can record videos in Dolby Vision.
A new photo tool called Signature Style is available on all three devices. It allows you to change a shot’s colors and tones, which can then be applied to all of your photos for a customized look. However, the Razr Ultra offers a few unique features. Group Shot, which combines photos to prevent a group photo with one person blinking, is similar to Google’s Best Take on Pixel phones. Air Gesture allows you to start video recording hands-free with a palm gesture and end it with a fist. Action Shot adjusts the shutter speed to ensure motion is tack-sharp.
With a 68-watt wired and 30-watt wireless charging capacity, the Ultra boasts the largest battery and the fastest wireless and wired charging speeds. Furthermore, it is the only Razr with a dedicated “AI key,” a button on the phone’s left side that activates Moto AI.
Moto AI
Last year, Motorola unveiled Moto AI and made it available for beta testing. According to the business, it has been improving the functionality in response to user input. Like other Android phones, these phones may be used with Google’s Gemini assistant. However, if you ask to “talk to Perplexity,” you can now reach Perplexity AI via the preloaded app or Moto AI.
The three main functions of Moto AI are Pay Attention, Remember This, and Catch Me Up. If you’re returning to your Razr after a while and have a ton of notifications to sort through, Catch Me Up compiles notifications and ranks the most important ones. Recall By doing this, you may instruct Moto AI to remember anything, including to save screenshots, which you can then ask it to remember later. The Razr will automatically transcribe a discussion and deliver a summary at the end of the audio recording that Pay Attention initiates.
A few previously unannounced new tricks, such as Next Move, are now available. This uses what’s on the screen to guess what you might want to do. Naturally, Motorola also offers some AI generation services. Playlist Studio creates a new playlist in response to a request, however it appears to only be compatible with Amazon Music at the moment. Things for Motos
Motorola’s general moniker for accessories, “Moto Things,” completes the announcements. These consist of a new smartwatch called the Moto Watch Fit and open-ear headphones called the Moto Buds Loop.
With two joint ventures, Bose and Swarovski, Motorola is enhancing the appearance and sound of the popular open-ear earbuds. Yes, there is a version of the Buds Loop with Swarovski crystals, and the earbuds include Sound by Bose for enhanced music quality. From spatial sound support and a water-repellent design to a 37-hour battery life with the case alone (eight hours for the buds), they contain every typical feature you could want in earbuds today. You won’t be able to utilize your favorite apps on the Watch Fit because it isn’t a Wear OS wristwatch. It can be used with any Android phone, and its 1.9-inch OLED screen, which was inspired by the Apple Watch, allows you to track your workouts, manage music playback, and check your notifications. It has a built-in GPS and can monitor your blood oxygen, heart rate, and sleep patterns. It boasts a 16-day battery life, a 5 ATM rating, and IP68 water resistance. Motorola has not disclosed the cost of this wearable, but it is expected to arrive in the “coming weeks.”
