This week, Google introduced some exciting new features for the Pixel Camera with the March Feature Drop, and now an update to the Pixel Camera app is being rolled out to complement those changes. According to report, Pixel Camera version 9.8 is now available via the Google Play Store, bringing along some adjustments to the settings menu and support for the latest features from the March update. While this is a minor update, most of the new functionalities stem from the recent Pixel Feature Drop.
One of the standout additions in the Pixel Camera 9.8 update is a new toggle for “Turn on animation for Astrophotography” found in the app’s settings. Although animation was already included in astrophotography images, this is the first time users can choose to disable it, with the feature still enabled by default. You can locate this toggle by going to Settings > Advanced in Pixel Camera 9.8.
A small but noteworthy change is the updated description for the Palm Timer toggle found in the settings. The new wording reads, “Start a photo timer by showing your palm to the front or rear cameras,” expanding on the previous version that only referred to the front camera.
The remaining features in Pixel Camera 9.8 were part of the March Feature Drop, which includes details available here. Notable additions are Dual Screen Preview for video recording for Pixel Fold users and Add Me support for Dual Screen Preview on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Furthermore, the Connected Cameras feature allows users to utilize another Pixel device or a GoPro as a remote camera for livestreaming and recording.
Overall, this latest update for the Pixel Camera is relatively small. The previous update, Pixel Camera 9.7, was also minor, while earlier versions introduced Quick access settings and an underwater mode, along with easier access to astrophotography and vertical panoramas.
