Samsung Galaxy phones with the forthcoming Link to Windows update can function as laptop webcams

Samsung Galaxy smartphones will be able to lend their cameras to laptops and desktop computers in lieu of a standard webcam thanks to an impending upgrade to Link to Windows.

A new feature on the Galaxy Book 4 series from Samsung and Microsoft will be unveiled this week at CES 2024. It lets users use their phone’s camera as a webcam on a Windows computer.
Samsung has long provided strong integration with Microsoft’s Link to Windows service, which powers this capability. The camera on a Galaxy phone may be used in all the same applications as a regular webcam when linked, including Microsoft Teams.

Notably, the compatibility requirements are extremely minimal. According to Samsung, the feature is compatible with Galaxy phones running Android 9 or later and One UI 1.0 and higher. That might make older Samsung phones a little more useful.

When the feature will be further released is unknown.
