Samsung Introduces SmartThings and AI-Powered 3D Map View Feature

Since its initial release at CES 2024, Samsung Electronics has been offering its 3D Map View feature, which is now accessible in all nations with SmartThings connectivity.

Real floor plans are converted into virtual images in the SmartThings app, which simplifies home management with Map View. At every time and location, users can conveniently control lighting, temperature, air quality, and energy consumption while maintaining clear visibility of their devices.

By removing the need to locate each device individually before using it, Map View simplifies the management of the increasing number of connected devices in homes across the globe. When more devices are connected, it automatically updates to give users a comprehensive view of their entire home.

The prior iteration of Map View was a 2D model that was limited to homes with a floor plan. But this recently updated 3D Map View uses the LiDAR sensors in Samsung devices, like the Bespoke Jet BotTM, to precisely measure and map the layout of a home. This is made possible by Spatial AI in Samsung devices. With 3D maps, users can now comprehend the layout and dimensions of their homes with greater ease.

Additionally, the feature’s filter function has been improved to enable more effective device control and monitoring. By the end of the year, it hopes to provide a more personalized and approachable smart service through the use of AI characters, which were also introduced at CES 2024.

Accessible

TVs and Android and iOS mobile devices can access Map View via the SmartThings app.3 Later in the year, controls for the feature will also be accessible through other hubs, like Family HubTM refrigerators 4.

Map View was first made available in the US and Korea late last year. But as of right now, it works in any nation where the SmartThings app is available.

Seungbeom Choi, Head of Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics, stated, “Map View is the result of Samsung’s constant efforts to enable customers to control their home devices without any inconvenience at any time and place.” “To ensure that our customers have the best possible smart home experiences and a better quality of life, we will keep introducing a range of pertinent services and features.”

Samsung is working with building companies right now to bring Map View into apartments and offices in addition to homes. By adding functionality, the company hopes to assist clients all over the world in creating smart environments. These include Quick Control, which makes it simple for users to access important features, and an optimized user experience (UX) for big screens that helps B2B operators with signage.
