Todd Barrow: Absolutely! It all began with a chance encounter at Cook Children’s Medical Centre. I was helping with the sound for an American Idol contestant’s performance when I met Sonny Burgess, a Texas Music Hall of Fame honouree. Sonny had worked with legends like Charley Pride and Randy Travis, and that conversation turned into a life-changing mentorship. It’s amazing how one small act of kindness can lead to incredible opportunities.
Q: Since then, you’ve made quite a name for yourself in the country music world. What have been some of your biggest milestones?
Todd Barrow: It’s been an exciting ride! I’ve been honoured to receive awards like the PRSA Award of Excellence and an Akademia Award. My music has also been featured in Alternative Roots Magazine and American Pride Magazine. Plus, I’ve had the opportunity to appear on major TV shows like Good Morning Texas and Texas Music Café on PBS. Each of these milestones has reinforced my passion for creating authentic country music.
Q: Your sound is described as a mix of classic country with a modern twist. How did you develop this unique style?
Todd Barrow: I grew up loving traditional country music, but I also appreciate how music evolves. My goal has always been to honour the roots of country while adding my own modern touch. Every song I write reflects my personal experiences and emotions. Working with amazing artists like Miranda Lambert’s band and producer Bart Rose has also helped shape my sound. I want my music to feel both nostalgic and fresh, something fans can truly connect with.
Q: Speaking of fans, what has been the most rewarding part of your career so far?
Todd Barrow: Hands down, the connection with my fans. Music is all about storytelling, and when people tell me that a song of mine has touched their hearts or helped them through something, that’s the biggest reward. I pour my heart into every song, and knowing that it resonates with others makes all the hard work worth it.
