Andy Ruiz is a competitive American boxing player, who came from a Mexican background. The boxer gained fame after winning the heavyweight championship titles: WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO titles defeating Anthony Joshua by delivering a technical knockout in round seven, in 2019. Furthermore, the Transnational Boxing Tanking Board and BoxRec gave him the fourth position in the best active heavyweight worldwide, and The Ring magazine ranked him sixth. He is also nicknamed as “Destroyer”. 

Andy Ruiz was born on September 11, 1989, upon the name Andrés Ponce “Andy” Ruiz Jr., in Imperial, California, US. Born to his parents Andres Ruiz Sr., and Felicitas Ruiz, Andy identifies himself with both American and Mexican nationalities. He belongs to White ethnicity. He grew up along with his three sisters and a younger brother. From an early age only, he grew an interest in boxing. Ruiz had his first fight at the age of seven. To pursue his career in boxing, he went back to Mexico. For education, in 2007, he graduated from Imperial High School. Ruiz stands at a height of 1.88 m and weighs about 90 kg.

Andy Ruiz started his career as a boxer in 2008 competing in Beijing Olympic Games for Mexico. At the age of 19, in 2009, he started his professional career debuting at Plaza de Toros in Tijuana. In his first game only, he won by a knockout in the first round against Miguel Ramirez. Since then he began to rise as a pro. Then in 2010, he made his American debut and won in round one only against Luke Vaughn. In the same year, he won the next three fights. Similarly, he went on rising and ranking higher.

In December 2016, Ruiz first time had his professional defeat in opposition to Joseph Parker for the vacant WBO title. Being unhappy with the loss, he wanted to rise back and won the next three fights. Then, in December 2018, Ruiz competed for the WBO Heavyweight Championship title. Ruiz gained fame on June 1, 2019, as he defeated Anthony Joshua by a technical knockout in the seventh round. Finally, he became a unified heavyweight championship along with WBO, IBO, and WBA (Super).
