Although it could be simpler, accessing your images from the Google Messages app for Android is comparatively simple. Launch Google Messages, then tap on any earlier messages. There is a circular button with a “plus sign [+]” inside it on the left of the text field. You will see ovals with icons inside when you tap the button.
There are eight choices:
Gallery, camera, GIFs, stickers, fles, location, contacts, schedule, and send
The most recent locally saved photos and videos from the Google Photos custom media picker are displayed when you tap Gallery. However, you will need to tap the Folders button at the bottom of the screen in order to access your photographs from the Google photographs app using the Android System photo picker. Unfortunately, if you want to see which photos are kept on the cloud rather than simply on your phone, you have to do an additional step.
In order to access your photographs via the Google Photo app for Google Messages, Google is attempting to remove an additional step.
Some people might think it’s a huge thing to take this extra step, but there is a security concern. For Google’s custom picker to function, it must have access to your whole media gallery. Only the images and movies you choose can be accessed by apps using Android’s picture picker. However, positive news is on the way. According to reports, Google is developing a method that would allow users to access their photographs from the photographs app via Google Messages without needing to press the Folders button.
With its own APIs, Android 16 introduces a new integrated photo picker that lets apps incorporate it straight into their user experience. In addition to providing the security and privacy of the Android system photo picker, this enables app developers a native-feeling media gallery. since requests for wide media authorization are no longer necessary. Mishaal Rahman of Android Authority discovered the built-in photo picker on his OnePlus 13 running OxygenOS 16.
To utilize the integrated photo picker, Android 16 is required
Rahman’s locally stored photos and films appear alongside his cloud-hosted images and videos when he clicks the Gallery icon. Rahman would have needed to take the extra step of tapping the Folders button to view his cloud-hosted images and movies from the Google Photos app prior to Android 16’s built-in photo picker.
You won’t need to grant the Google Messages app “Photos and videos” access to share images or movies once the embedded photo picker launches. You can actually remove the “Photos and videos” permission after the integrated photo picker appears.
You won’t be able to see the embedded photo picker on your Android device until it is running Android 16, even though it is compatible with Android 14.
