Meizu says it’s Leaving the Smartphone Business and Concentrating on Artificial Intelligence

Meizu, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, made headlines not too long ago when it was revealed that the upcoming phone was actually a rebranded Meizu Infinity-series device. Yes, that Polestar. Having said that, it appears that the company is now reportedly planning to exit the smartphone market entirely.

Meizu recently announced a change in company strategy, focusing instead on the development of AI software for possible future hardware integration, according to new information found online. The CEO of Xingji Meizu Group, Shen Ziyu, said last year that the company has transformed from a simple mobile phone brand to a “ecological group,” suggesting that the transformation has been in the works for some time.

The Meizu 21 Pro, Meizu 22, and Meizu 23 are just a few of the upcoming smartphone models that will no longer be being worked on as a result of the company’s change in direction. However, the business also has an upcoming “AI hardware product” and plans to release a new mobile OS this year.

Customers are nonetheless reassured by the company that support for current products will continue to exist throughout China.
