Nick Conn on Why Dads are Struggling with Addiction

Nick Conn on Why Dads are Struggling with Addiction

2021 is going to be the year of a pandemic of addictions, with a huge increase in cases already hitting home.

Nick Conn, founder, and CEO of an addiction advice service named Help4Addiction, is a man considered to be an industry expert. With more than a decade of experience in helping people into rehab and support for addiction behind him, Nick has recently taken to the internet keyboard warrior style – and all for a very worthy cause.

You see, the pandemic is not the only health crisis that we should be worried about. Although it is costing lives now, Nick reckons there is a looming addiction crisis which is going to further challenge an exhausted Britain in the coming months.

A Day in the Life of an Addiction Helper

Nick starts each day with a fresh coffee and an hour set aside to answer messages. He goes to work almost immediately, replying to urgent calls for help before the coffee is even cooled enough to drink.

Nick receives countless messages every day – so much so that he has grown an Instagram following big enough to be an influencer… although his life goals are much too serious for such a role. Nick Conn helps those who want to get into recovery for addiction. In 2021, he says that the majority of those seeking help are men. Not just men, either. They are husbands and fathers, they are career men, guys who have spent decades running their own business only to see it crumble during Covid-19.

Nick spends the morning doing this, responding to every call. He refers to himself as a ‘sucker’ because he tries to help each person that asks him. If they sought him out, Nick sees it as his duty to help them. Unfortunately, it is not always that easy. It can take five, six, or twenty times to successfully complete rehab. Even when in recovery, you are still an addict. The temptation will always linger… and Nick knows this all too well.

Recovering Addict and Father

Nick reached a low point earlier in his life, back when he worked for the police force. Nick developed a cocaine addiction due to the many pressures of life, and of the job. There were points in his life where he nearly did not make it. Eventually he knew that the job was going to kill him. He packed it in, quit the drugs, went to therapy, and now devotes his life to helping all those other men who are in a similar position.

You see: if Nick had notrecovered, he might never have had his children. He would never have been a successful business owner, and thousands of men would have fallen through the cracks as a result. Nowadays, Nick tells his story to all who will listen. He recognises how important it is to speak out and encourages other men to do so by his very presence.

We could all stand to be a little more like Nick.

Helping Other Addicts into Recovery

Nick helps recovering addicts in several ways. He runs a series of workshops on YouTube that can help those who cannot afford rehab to start helping themselves. He has a podcast, in which he talks to industry experts on how things can change for the better. He even helps those who need urgent help via his social media accounts.

You can catch him on Instagram or contact Help4Addiction to get addiction support. There are both paid and free resources available to you, if you reach out. Help is out there. It is time we all stopped suffering in silence and sought it out.
