Taylor Swift has achieved yet another milestone as her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. This marks her 15th No. 1 album, setting a new personal and industry record.
According to Billboard, citing Luminate data, the album opened with 4.002 million equivalent album units, including 3,479,500 in pure sales and 1.3 million vinyl sales. This performance surpasses Adele’s 2015 album 25, which previously held the modern-era record with 3.482 million units in its debut week.
“I have 4 million thank you’s I want to send to the fans,” Swift wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for celebrating this project in theaters, investing in vinyl, streaming, watching the videos, buying CDs, and reading the poems I wrote inside the packaging. I’ll cherish this feeling forever.”
With this achievement, Swift breaks her tie with Drake and Jay-Z, becoming the solo artist with the most No. 1 albums in Billboard history. She now trails only The Beatles, who hold the all-time record with 19 chart-toppers since 1956.
Adding to her success, all 12 top spots on this week’s Billboard Hot 100 are occupied by songs from The Life of a Showgirl, led by “The Fate of Ophelia” at No. 1. Swift previously dominated the chart with Midnights (2022) and The Tortured Poets Department (2024).
Released in August, the new album features Sabrina Carpenter on the title track and reunites Swift with longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback, known for their work on Red, 1989, and Reputation.
Swift also launched a limited-time cinema event tied to the album, which topped the global box office. She recently announced additional projects for fans:
-
Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The End of an Era — a six-episode docuseries on Disney+ premiering in December
-
The Eras Tour | The Final Show — a concert film capturing her final performance in Vancouver
With record-breaking sales and new releases on the horizon, The Life of a Showgirl further solidifies Taylor Swift’s position as one of the most successful artists in modern music.
