Interview with Pete nebula

1. Tell us your story and what makes you unique?

I started making music in about 2008 or somewhere around then, at that time heavily inspired by video game music. Game soundtracks like Sonic, Bomberman, Final Fantasy, etc. Shortly after that in about 2010-2011 started to upload the music I was making onto Soundcloud, surprisingly gaining traction. By then I was able to make the things I grew up to or more of what I wanted to listen to, inspired most by J Dilla & Madlib. Around that time is also when I met Isaiah Rashad on Twitter/Soundcloud. We started exchanging music back and forth over the internet, I’d send him instrumentals & he’d send them back with raps on top. It eventually got to the point where I was traveling to Nashville from Atlanta to work in person with him. A couple years of that and he then got signed to TDE, we moved to LA continuing the operation at their headquarters. Which led me to work with the rest of their artist, most notably being with SZA and the CTRL album.

2. What influenced your love for music?

What influenced my love for music the most, as predictable as it may be, as my family/parents. I still to this day, gravitate towards certain sounds because they were in the songs that my mom & dad were playing in the car, or the vinyl my grandma would play while she was cleaning the house. Secondary to family, I’d have to say movies and video games. I’ve always
loved the quality of the music in video games, and the arrangement of the score in a movie.

3. What would you say are the biggest challenges you face as a producer /artist ?
The biggest challenge I face is trying to play into modern music politics, and having to compete in an opinion-based field. I’m inspired by people who just exist in space and time without being concerned about
what another person is doing.

4. What inspired you to get into this industry?
To be honest I’ve never been inspired to get into this industry. I’ve always been inspired by the music and wanted to make it. The word “industry”
didn’t exist to me until I moved to LA and got thrown into the wolf pack. The music business is still new to me.

5. What does success mean to you?
Success to me means accomplishing the goals you have set for yourself, and being content with what you have after they’re accomplished.

6. what should the industry be expecting soon.?

I differentiate myself from other producers/artists by doing what I feel instead of what people expect me to do. I don’t consider myself a producer or artist, I’m just a person driven by concepts and obsessions, going through phases of creating in different mediums. I think that labels can make a
People feel like they’re only good at what they’ve been labeled as, and everything else they could be doing is a stretch or hard to reach.

6. What are your goals in the industry?
My goal in this industry is to release music that ages like Picasso paintings do.
