Sergey Tokarev: Reface gains 75 million downloads, attraction of world-class celebrities in first year

Sergey Tokarev, an investor of face replacement app Reface, expressed his views on the success of the startup. Reface has reached 75 million downloads on Google Play and AppStore in its first year. It is the best app on Google Play. A huge number of international celebrities have collaborated with the app and Andreessen Horowitz, a venture capital fund based in Silicon Valley, made a noticeable investment of $5.5 million in Reface.

The Development and Growth of Reface

In 2011, a group of Ukrainian developers started working on improving machine learning methods. After some time, they started developing their own artificial intelligence technology to replace faces on images in the best quality. The hard work of the developers paid a sweet prize in the form of Reface. In January 2020, the company launched the Reface app on Google Play and AppStore. “The guys improved the technology so that you could swap faces not only on static images but also on GIFs and videos,” notes Sergey Tokarev.

In the first quarter of its release, the Reface app reached 1 million downloads. Now, the app has been downloaded by over 75 million people across the world. Sergey Tokarev adds, “This development is unique and still has no competitive alternative in the world.” The app reached the top of AppStore and Google Play in the US and various other countries by the end of summer. The number of downloads is increasing over time as the app is becoming more and more popular across the world.

Top celebrities at the global level are collaborating with Reface. “Celebs like Snoop Dogg, Britney Spears, Joe Rogan, Chris Brown, DuaLipa, and many others have shared the images created in the app in their social media,” expresses Sergey Tokarev. The promotional videos of Justin Bieber were created by using Reface technology. SFR, a telecommunication company in France, used the app to run an advertisement campaign. Similarly, the app has been used in running various other social campaigns in Ukraine and other countries. The uniqueness and realistic results of the app are its main strengths.

Some Noticeable Investments

Reface grabbed a handy investment of $5.5 million from Andreessen Horowitz in November 2020. The managers of Britney Spears and Justin Bieber also invested in the app. Similarly, the investors of Facebook, Twitter, Uber, and Microsoft contributed to the app. Reface says that it will use these investments and support to improve the face replacement technology. The future prospect of the company is to expand its partnerships with music labels, influencers, and filmmakers. Reface has already become a world-renowned company with over 100 employees. The headquarter of the company is based in Kyiv, Ukraine. Sergey Tokarev adds that Reface is getting new fans over time. The company often gets involved in joint projects with its fans and followers. The platform is growing at a rapid pace and the future looks brighter.
