Growing up I was always called beautiful and told I was either too tall not to model or play sports. I was involved in a lot of activities but sports never stuck with me. From the middle school basketball games to ballet, tap, and jazz at The Dance Theatre of Harlem, to playing the violin for 10+ years, nothing stuck. It’s as if it just clicked in my head at the age of 23 that, wow, I am beautiful. It wasn’t just something that clicked but rather the confidence that gave me a push internally. As I’m sure we all struggled with, I had insecurities growing up that of course were made fun of. “You’re so tall”, “you have big hands”, “your lips are too big”. But now, instead of being made fun of, I’m being uplifted and embraced for those exact “insecurities”. I must say the feeling is wonderful.

I’ve grown tremendously as a person and have seen such growth within myself from high school until now. I used to be very reserved, shy, and soft-spoken. I wouldn’t speak up for myself much and it caused a lot of friction in my life. I wouldn’t think of myself as high as I should’ve and overall wasn’t confident at all; despite being this “tall, elegant” girl.
So much to say, personally, it took more than family, friends, and perception. Male interests gave my confidence a boost. It truly did come from within and I now feel unstoppable. I got into modeling after 20 years of the world telling me I needed to and really, there was no better time. It was the perfect time because I, Keeley Ferguson, was ready for the world to see me through a different lens. I now have the confidence and can only see myself moving forward and growing expeditiously.

The greatest thing so far about modeling is being in front of the camera. For me, I get a sensation once the flash goes off and I get a few test shots in, I feel like Tyra Banks (lol). It truly does make me happy getting all dolled up and being able to essentially, use what God gave me to make someone else’s creative vision come to light. Modeling has its challenges of course such as the down seasons of not getting booked however, that just means I have to keep myself extra busy doing things like, Instacart, Tik Tok, reading, watching movies, hiking, and relaxing at home.
Overall, modeling has brought me much joy and I know I have the potential for greatness as long as I continue to preserve as I’ve been. It sounds corny and cliché but I’ve seen it work for myself, work hard and you get to play even harder. If you want something, you need to have the confidence to know you’re capable and then the strength to attain it. Once I understood and mastered this concept, it feels like there’s nothing I can’t do. https://www.instagram.com/keeleyfergs
