David Johnson Jr is a young basketball player who is slowly but surely climbing the ladder to becoming a professional basketball. He is also known as DJ Johnson among his friends or iamdjjonhson. Apart from being a sportsperson, David also works as an entrepreneur and has recently been trying his hand in the world of business. Born and brought up in Louisville, Kentucky, in Texas, David is now truly taking his talents worldwide and is well on the way to success.
Johnson’s biggest Basketball idol is LeBron James. Johnson’s motivation springs from LeBron’s leadership skills and examples he sets for others to follow. LeBron does not believe in others following him, instead, he encourages them to play their best. This is because everyone is unique in their own way. Despite numerous Basketball legends, Johnson still follows him.
The sole purpose of pursuing a basketball career was to make a name for him and his family and to leave a legacy behind of his own. His father was also a basketball player who left the world in 2005. His father’s basketball jersey’s number was 23, hence he loves wearing the number 23 on his back while playing the game. Johnson made himself eligible for the 2021 NBA Draft and will not return to the University of Louisville for his remaining college eligibility. Johnson played 2 seasons for the Cards.
He attributes many of his athletic successes to his coach Leroy Harley. He played under Coach Leroy in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU); a travelling basketball team. According to him, Coach Leroy was able to help him further his basketball career into college. DJ has been playing under coach Leroy in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), this is a team of basketball that travels for its games. Leroy has been coaching him and training him in his basketball career in college.
After his father passed away, David’s mother has been a single parent. She continues to take care of his brothers and him all by herself. He gets motivated by his mother. According to David, “To actually chase your dreams and have faith in yourself, you have to be surrounded by the right people who love and care about you.”
DJ believes that it was not luck, but his hard work and consistent improvement in his skills have reached him towards his goal. DJ has proved to be an inspiration for the new generation who love to play basketball.
